We have a 600psi waste heat boiler that makes about 100,000 #/hr. I am replacing a superheat tube bundle that consists of both SA213-T11 and 304SS tubes.
A Sat. steam line is constantly sending steam through the T11 tubes, but if a higher steam temperature is desired, the steam will pass through 304SS tubes prior to entering the T11 tubes. The 304SS tubes have a seperate sat. steam line feeding them, but at much smaller flow rate compared to the T11 feeder line. Therefore, the 304SS tubes will be "starved" of steam compared to the T11 tubes.
My question is whether I can replace the SS tubes with T11 tubes, making the entire bundle uniform with SA213-T11 tubes. This would help cut costs, as well as delivery time.
What are the pros and cons of using 304SS or T11? Can T11 handle the shock?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

| Usually, you should not. When the design engineer selected SS 304, the gas temp at that point might be more. If you can mail us the drgs/ sketches along with details like gas temp and stm flow, we will be better equipped to comment on this. |
